[Little Bippy Series] Orca Bippy Bun - Free Crochet Pattern

Orcas are some of the most beloved ocean animals out there. This tiny killer whale fits perfectly in the palm of your hand! It works up fast, and is simple enough for even beginner crocheters to give a try. Did you know there's a few different types of orca that have different diets and act differently? Orca Bippy

Materials

  • Yarn (I used weight 4 yarn from Loops & Threads)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5 mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

2.5 inches from nose to tail. Final size may be different depending on your yarn, hook size, and tension.

 

Notes

 I use square brackets when you're using [black] yarn on rounds with multiple colours, and curly brackets for {white} stitches.


Pattern Instructions

Body

Start with [black]
1. 6 mc (6)

2. Inc around (12)

3. (Inc, sc) x6 (18)

4. (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

5. (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)

6-8. 3 rounds of sc around (30)

9-10. [10 sc], switch to {white} {4 sc}, [9 sc], {4 sc}, [3 sc] (30) (do this round twice)

11. [sc around] (30) switch to {white} on last stitch

12. BLO {sc around} (30)

Pause here to attach the eyes. The part with 9 stitches between the two white patches is the nose, so I placed my eyes at the bottom corner of each white patch toward the nose end.


13. {3 sc, dec} x6 (24)

14. {2 sc, dec} x6 (18) Start stuffing

15. {1 sc, dec} x6 (12)

16. {dec} x6 (6)

The underside should form a flat belly.

 

Dorsal fin

1. 4 mc (4)

2. (1 sc, inc) x2 (6)

3. (2 sc, inc) x2 (8)

4. (3 sc, inc) x2 (10) 

Leave tail for sewing




Pectoral fins (make 2)

4 chain Skip the first chain

Hdc, dc, dc 

Leave a tail for sewing.



Tail

Chain 5 Skip the first chain

Ss, sc, hdc, dc, ss into first chain

Chain 5 and repeat the step above to form the second half of the tail.



Attaching Parts

The dorsal fin should be positioned toward the tail end a bit, rather than right in the middle of the back.


 Pectoral fins are sewn on using the front loops left behind by doing round 12.




Do your best to centre the tail between the fins, and sew to the back loops from round 12.

Raccoon - Free Pattern

Raccoons are one of the cutest North American animals, in my opinion! Some regions even have blonde ones that are super cute, too!
