Hedgehog - Free Pattern

 

Hedgehogs are so grumpy, but so cute at the same time! I love their little personalities! This one won't be spiny, so you don't have to worry about getting poked. 


Hedgehog

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

About 2 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

Body

In light brown
1. Chain 8, skip the first chain then sc in the next 6, (3 sc in one chain), working on the other side of the chain 5 sc, inc (16)
2. Inc, 5 sc, (Inc)x3, 5 sc, (Inc)x2 (22)
3. Sc, inc, 5 sc, (sc, inc)x3, 5 sc, (sc, inc)x2 (28)
4. 2 sc, inc, 5 sc, (2 sc, inc)x3, 5 sc, (2 sc, inc)x2 (34)
5-8. Sc around (34) (do 4 times)
9. (15 sc, dec)x2 (32)
10. (2 sc, dec)x8 (24)

Embroider a nose between rounds 6 and 7, embroider eyes over round 6
11. (Sc, dec)x8 (16)
12. (Dec)x8
Fasten off and close the hole



Bigger spines (make 2)

In dark brown
Chain 16, skip the first chain then (hdc, [dc, tc, dc in the same stitch] hdc)x5
Fasten off with a tail for sewing


Smaller spines (make 2)

In dark brown
Chain 17, skip the first chain then (dc, [2 sc in one chain], dc, ss)x4
fasten off with a tail for sewing


Ears (make 2)

In light brown
6 sc in mc
Fasten off with a tail for sewing



Attaching Parts


Sew the spines on the back of your hedgehog's body. I put mine starting about 4-5 rounds behind the eyes. Sew them in alternating big, small, big, small.


Sew the ears to the top of the head, just before where the spines start.
