Moth and Butterfly Amigurumi Pattern Release (with caterpillars)!
Moth and Butterfly + Caterpillar Amigurumi Pattern Release!
The pattern is available on Etsy here, and Ravelry here!
I'm excited to announce that I've released my latest Etsy pattern, a collection of moths and butterflies native to North America! This bundle includes the patterns for a luna moth, rosy maple moth, monarch butterfly, and Lorquin's admiral butterfly, along with the caterpillar for each species. They make a great, quick spring or summer project, or even an Easter basket gift!
As you may know, I enjoy crocheting animals that are native to North America, and especially ones native to the Pacific Northwest. I'm also a huge fan of any and all bugs and insects, so when I saw a Loquin's admiral while gardening, I thought I'd make a small collection of stuffed animal butterflies and moths native to the continent. I tried to include popular species that many people would recognize.
I thought of the idea to add caterpillar versions of each species because I've noticed that there's many caterpillar patterns out there, but few to none that are for a specific species. They're usually colourful worms, but I wanted to make them a more realistic type of caterpillar. I thought it would be a cute idea to have "baby" versions of them along with the "adult" versions!
These amigurumi patterns are more suited for intermediate level crocheters who are comfortable with colour changes and popcorn stitches (there's instructions included in the pattern for how to do a popcorn stitch). If you're able to do frequent colour changes, there shouldn't be anything too challenging in these patterns. The butterflies and moths turn out to be around 2.5 inches long, with a wingspan of 4.5-6 inches depending on which species when made with weight 4 yarn and a 4.5mm crochet hook.
These little plushies have been a huge hit with the kids in my life, especially the luna moth, and I'm sure you'll find the same. I think these patterns turned out wonderful, and I hope you'll consider them! Thank you for your support!
