Rat - Free Amigurumi Pattern

I love rats! I know I say I love a lot of animals, but rats are so special. They're smart, loving, loyal, the whole package! I based this pattern off my free bear amigurumi pattern, just with a shortened muzzle and a few different features to make it extra mousey. Rat Free Amigurumi Pattern

Materials

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

3.5 inches long, not including the tail. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.


Pattern Instructions 

Head and Body

In grey
1. 6 mc
2. (Sc, inc) x3 (9)
3. 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc (12)
4. 3 sc, (inc, sc) x3, 3 sc (15)
5. (2 sc, inc) x5 (20)
6-7. Sc around (20) (2 rounds total)
8. (3 sc, inc) x5 (25)
9. Sc around (25)
10. (4 sc, inc) x5 (30)
11-17. Sc around (30) (7 rounds total)
Embroider a nose in pink over round 1, insert safety eyes between rounds 5-6 about 8 stitches apart. Start stuffing
18. (3 sc, dec) x6 (24)
19. (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
20. (Sc, dec) x6 (12)
21. (Dec) x6 (6)
Fasten off, close the hole


Ears (make 2)

In grey
1. 6 sc in mc (6)
2. (Sc, inc) x3 (9)
3. Sc around (9)
4. (Sc, dec) x3 (6)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing. Do not stuff.



Front feet (make 2)

In pink
1. 6 sc in mc (6)
2. Sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing



Back feet (make 2)

In pink
1. 6 sc in mc (6)
2-3. Sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing



Tail

In pink
Ch 20, skip the first chain from the hook and do 19 ss down the chain (19)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing



Attaching Parts

Start by sewing the ears to the top of the head. I sewed mine over round 7, with 3 stitches between them.


Sew all the feet onto the bottom of the body. I sewed the front feet over rounds 6-8, and the back feet over rounds 14-16.

Finally, sew the tail to the bum. I sewed mine high, closer to the back of the rat, and sewed it between rounds 17-18.
