Stegosaurus Dinosaur - Free Amigurumi Pattern

Another favourite of mine, the adorable stegosaurus! I just love armoured herbivores. These dinos are well known for the big plates on their back. These guys are another classic dinosaur, and a staple of every toy bucket! Try my ankylosaurus pattern here if you enjoyed this pattern!

Stegosaurus Dinosaur Free Amigurumi Pattern

Materials

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

About 6 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

Body

In light green
1. 6 sc in mc (6)
2. (Sc, inc)x3 (9)
3. (2 sc, inc)x3 (12)
4. (3 sc, inc)x3 (15)
5-9. Sc around (15) (5 rounds total)
10. 5 sc, (sc, inc)x3, 4 sc (18)
11-12. Sc around (18) (2 rounds total) 
Insert eyes between rounds 3 and 4, about 7 stitches apart with the increases on the back
13. 5 sc, (2 sc, inc)x3, 4 sc (21)
14-15. Sc around (21) (2 rounds total)  

Start stuffing head

Attaching Parts

Start by sewing the legs to the bottom of the body, which is the flat side, not the side with the increases to make the hump. I sewed the front legs between rounds 9-11 and 2 stitches apart, and the back legs between rounds 16-19 and 3 stitches apart.

Next, sew the plates to the back in a straight line, right down the middle. I suggest using pins to help hold them straight while you sew.
